CELEBRATING THE CENTENNIAL
ANNIVERSARY OF FATHER’S DAY
It is June, the sun is out, summer is upon us and Father’s Day is around the corner; this June 20th marks the 100th anniversary of Fathers Day!
Fathers are not born, they are made. It is through the crucible of fatherhood that men truly understand what President Obama recently said “to be a good father is the most important job in a man’s life”. It is an incredibly important job, but often a job many men are ill prepared to fulfill. Faced with the demands on this “important job” many men simply walk away. The most important causes that drive fathers out of their homes include: becoming unemployed, low wages, involvement in domestic violence, substance abuse and addiction, engaging in criminal behavior and incarceration, relationship breakup (divorce, etc.) and mental illness.
